T.Loop at the Angel Prize Summit
Computing power as an asset for the energy system — how the Nordics can lead the sustainable AI era
At the Angel Prize Summit arranged by Nordic Angels, T.Loop presented its view on how the rapid development of AI should be matched by an equally innovative energy system. As AI usage increases, demand will scale at an almost unimaginable pace—with enormous needs for compute, electricity, and supporting infrastructure.
The underused resource that arises when IT loads are active—waste heat—is largely dissipated today, representing a lost opportunity that can be turned into value. T.Loop presented its Data Energy Centers®, designed to be an integrated part of the energy system. The facilities are optimized for high-density IT loads such as AI, with a technical design that delivers stable, high-temperature heat as a schedulable heat resource directly into district heating networks. In addition, data centers’ backup capacity can help balance the power grid. The result is that data centers can shift from being a strain to becoming an asset for the energy system. In short: we stop wasting both compute and energy.
The Nordics were highlighted as a natural home for the next generation of sustainable data infrastructure. The combination of a robust energy system, ample access to renewable electricity, mature district-heating infrastructure, and an innovation-friendly climate makes the region particularly attractive. A growing number of investors and compute users are now turning their attention to the Nordics for their upcoming initiatives.
By uniting data centers and energy infrastructure, the Nordics can show the way forward—demonstrating, in practice and at scale, a sustainable and integrated model with measurable benefits to society.
